4. Engagement Session

After you've paid your deposit, the fun begins! Your engagement session is my favorite part of our time together because it gives you both a chance to be in front of my camera before you get married, which is going to make your wedding day experience feel so smooth, seamless, & comfortable! It also gives us time to get to know each other as well as various poses that you like for your wedding day.

This is my gift to you & unfortunately cannot be switched for another session & cannot be done after your wedding day. Bridal or boudoir portraits will be considered a Lifestyle Session!

You can expect to receive your images within 6-10 weeks after the session date. For rush delivery, there is an added charge. Please visit my Client Gallery page to learn every step on how you to download, share, & print your images!

You deserve to enjoy every moment of your engagement season. It's become nothing but planning this, paying for that, booking this, designing that -- with no time to truly enjoy each other. One of the first steps as a couple is to get organized together! Try out either of my FREE wedding planning resources below!

We will create this together at your Wedding Consultation! Your day-of timeline will be based solely upon the time of the ceremony, the option of having a first look (highly encouraged), as well as the amount of locations we will be at on your wedding day! Keep in mind, the ceremony time needs to be 1.5-2 hours before sunset in order to accommodate well lit photos (here’s my go-to sunset calculator). Check out two timelines below. Keep in mind, there’s added cushion time for schedule delays, walking to various locations, etc.

the wedding details

Upon arrival at your getting ready location, please gather wedding details for me to capture while hair & makeup takes place. Don't forget a personalized hanger, family heirlooms, or ring boxes to add a little extra glam! I like to find a momentous backdrop so I may take your trinkets to a close by location on the grounds.

List of Must-Haves: Bouquet, Boutonniere, Full Invitation Set, Steamed Dress on Preferred Hanger (a twistable top is best!), Veil, Shoes, Both Rings Cleaned, All Jewelry, All Hair Pieces, Ring Box, His Tie / BowTie, Suspenders / Vest, Shoes, Watch, Glasses

  • Add-Ons: Any heirloom items, perfume bottle, brush, ribbon, cologne bottle, etc.

Keep in mind:

  1. The florist needs to deliver the bouquets & boutonniere’s in time for these photos!

  2. All details need to be gathered in one location & out of any wrappings (more time for me to take photos).

getting ready shots

Natural lighting is the most important factor. Pick a place that has lots of space, light, & minimal clutter (this goes for the guys too)! White walls, big windows, & light colors work wonders. As the bride, have your chair set up in front of a window. There's nothing more flattering than the soft, natural light coming in highlighting your gorgeous features.

  1. CANDIDS: I’ll style your wedding details behind you as hair & makeup finishes, so that it feels like a real bridal suite. I’ll introduce myself to the bridesmaids with some fun candids of their pampering process!

  2. HAIR & MAKEUP: Once hair & makeup is complete for everyone, I’ll gather all the girls in robes to do a champagne / coffee toast! With bare feet & legs, the focus will be on the joys of girl time getting ready for your wedding day!

  3. GETTING DRESSED: We’ll ask the most important women in your life to pamper you as finally put on your wedding dress & veil (this could me mom, grandma, step mom, sister, bridesmaids, etc.). We’ll also take some bridal portraits as you finalize any jewelry, put your shoes on, garter, etc.

  4. FIRST LOOKS: This is a great opportunity to add in first looks with bridesmaids, dad, grandparents, siblings, etc.

*For the groom, these shots are very similar, but take half the time. 1. Candids of groom & groomsmen that morning (fishing, skeet shooting, playing pool, etc.) 2. Getting ready candids 3. Getting ready shots where I will ask parents to be fully dressed & help the groom get ready (ex. dad help put the tie on, mom put the boutonniere on).

the first look

After both Bride & Groom are dressed, we can move outside into the "First Look" which is an intimate moment set up for you & your fiance before the ceremony. This is the #1 factor that will influence the flow of your day & I’m a HUGE fan!!!

  • By choosing a first look, you’ll get more intimate time with your spouse on your wedding day, adding more time to express your emotions. Think about it - walking down the aisle happens so fast & usually not in the best lighting. What if you got 30 minutes to spend time together googlie-eyed at how each other looks instead of 10-20 seconds?!

  • In addition, the flow of the entire day for family, wedding party, & guests is WAY more smooth. Instead of bouncing back & forth between photo groups, we can do all the major events before the ceremony, leaving you with more time with your guests at the reception to enJOY the evening!

  • Last, you end up with way more husband & wife portraits to cherish forever. Sold yet? =) During this time, we will also take the opportunity to do your individual Bride & Groom Portraits. Imagine the amount of time your future husband will have to relax & stand in awe of his future bride!

  3. BRIDAL PORTRAITS (individual)

  4. GROOM PORTRAITS (individual)

***If you choose to not do a first look, keep in mind that after the ceremony, your guests may be waiting for over an hour as you will need to take family portraits, full wedding party portraits, as well as husband & wife portraits!

the first look

Wedding party portraits usually consist of individual portraits with the bride & her bridesmaids, then group shots of everyone in various poses & backdrops (+ vice versa with the groom). I try to do a mix of formal portraits, some funny (if applicable), as well as detail shots like the florals & individuals of the overall dress.

  1. FULL WEDDING PARTY (with flower girls & ring-bearers)

  2. BRIDE & BRIDESMAIDS (group shots & individuals)

  3. GROOM & GROOMSMEN (group shots & individuals)

If you're getting married outdoors, try to avoid a mid-day ceremony where the sun is beaming down from above. Sweat, harsh shadows, & squinting - let's avoid all that. Golden hour is your best friend & it's natures way of airbrushing you.

If you're getting married indoors, try to use as much natural light as possible. That will ensure that your images are crystal clear since I never use flash during a ceremony. Make sure to ask your venue about any photography restrictions prior to booking!

wedding day-of coordinator is a MUST HAVE for any wedding with a formal procession & day-of timeline. Even though photography influences the entire schedule, there are so many moving parts that I cannot direct. A professional wedding day-of coordinator or someone who isn't immediate family will greatly help the flow of events so that you can stay in the moment!

  1. CEREMONY / RECEPTION DETAILS - florals, decor, cake, table settings, guests arriving

  2. FULL CEREMONY - family / wedding party walking down aisle, bride walking down aisle, grooms first look, full ceremony, first kiss, everyone exiting up the aisle

Capuchinas Convento

Every single family is unique in their own way! I will work with you to come up with your own timeline of portraits that can take place either before (if there’s a first look) or after the ceremony. These photos can be done inside with flash, or outside in natural light at a close by central location.

destination wedding

My goal is to use flash as little as possible. Sure, it works when it's absolutely needed, but it's my feeling that flash takes away from the ambience of a room. I want your photos to honestly represent how that moment looked through your eyes and how it felt to be there. They key to this is using only the light that is naturally available.

This is where you can help me! Make Italian String Lights (sometimes called Bistro Lights) your best friend. Candles too. Light your room up with a warm, natural glow - the more the better! Fluorescent lighting can cause harsh lines on faces, so try to avoid that. The more natural glow you can create, the better your photos will be (even for guests on their iPhones!)

Please let me know what kind of music you plan on having because bands or DJ's sometimes bring their own lighting equipment (disco balls, colorful dance floor lights, etc.) This will help me prepare my lighting equipment based on your preferences.

There are so many possibilities to get creative here! I love using as little flash as possible. Ambient lighting with long, smokey sparklers can help capture the mood of the event, but I also love a unique things like bubbles, lavender, confetti poppers, ribbons, rose petals, or even SKY LANTERNS (my favorite!!!)! The choice is up to you!

at the end of the day

No matter what happens, your wedding day is about you, your fiancé, & your guests. It's about celebrating your love and commitment to each other and maybe throwing one heck of a party. Don't be afraid to kick your shoes off, switch it up, break some traditions & create new ones. I can't wait to capture it all for you!

I can't wait to get you in front of my camera!
